Dear Joseph,

Our server Web396 is currently experiencing a massive DDOS attack and
our datacenter's hardware DDOS protection is struggling to mitigate the
attack.

You are receiving this email because our records indicate that your
account "germanjoey" uses that server.

We have set up our own DDOS mitigation system which is made of several servers
sitting in front of Web396 and proxying the requests to Web396.

We are pointing each subdomain to a unique combination of IPs on the proxies.

We have already updated our DNS servers accordingly but if you are using external
DNS servers for some of your domains you will need to update them with the
following IPs:

media.rhizzone.net xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
safemedia.rhizzone.net xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
rhizzone.net xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
www.rhizzone.net xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

We would like to apologize for the downtime that this DDOS attack has caused.

We hope that our new mitigation system will make a big difference with the
speed and availability of the sites hosted on Web396.

Going forward we hope that this new system will enable us to mitigate massive DDOS
attacks much more quickly and efficiently.

We will send you another email once the attack is over and you can point your
domains back to Web396.

Regards,

The WebFaction team

i tried changing our DNS settings as they suggested and that fucked everything up, thats why the site was down for a couple of days. its back up now but... some pages load insanely snappy, some dont load at all, and i have not a clue why. still looking into it.

I think its something fucked up with the static media server... I'll email webfaction about it. for some weird ass reason, its changing some urls like this:

http://media.rhizzone.net/forum/js/jscolor/jscolor.js

to ones like this:

http://media.rhizzone.net/LlmkZ/forum/js/jscolor/jscolor.js 404 (Not Found) ?page=1:2944
GET http://www.rhizzone.net/UdkkZ/forum/static_files/annote/preview_ctrl.js/ 404 (NOT FOUND) ?page=1:2909
GET http://media.rhizzone.net/UdkkZ/OlhhZ/forum/js/markitup/jquery.markitup.pack.js 404 (Not Found)

like those random UdkkZ/OlhhZ/ shit in the urls, i have NO fucking clue what the hell that is. that's why the pages are taking forever to load, because obviously "http://media.rhizzone.net/UdkkZ/OlhhZ/forum/js/markitup/jquery.markitup.pack.js" doesn't exist.

i exchanged like 20 emails with webfaction support yesterday, and apparently the machine we were on got incredibly fucked from the ddos? like idk if it was hacked or their anti-ddos shit fucked other stuff up, they didnt say, but it took them awhile to even see there was a problem because it was somehow masked on their end. it wasnt until i was able to document it en-masse via http://browsershots.org/http://www.rhizzone.net/forum/ that they really looked into it. anyways they moved us to a DIFFERENT machine and now everything seems great. rip web396.
