if you think drunks and drug addicts can simply make a decision to stop using from will alone then you don't understand how human brains or addiction work. Conveniently i do. for almost everyone in all situations drug addiction cannot be willed away. It is an illness like depression. You cannot will it away. this is why programs like Aa exist, to structure recovery that is otherwise not navigable for a human afflicted with this disease. opiate addicts have to be put up in sober living, their lives regimented and supervised because otherwise they will never, never, ever, recover. drunks and other addicts are scum to deal with but I betcha most of them don't want to be. theyre stuck with it. morals aside its not realistic to treat a drug addiction as a failing of the human being, because no human can end it without extensive help.

Maybe she thought you were making fun of her? Or maybe you just obviously have your shit together so much better than her that she believed you were incompatible?

Conec you were doing some "harden up" calvinist crap like "poor drug addicts, as if they don't have a choice". and then two posts ago you sad the same thing. And I'm telling you that the reality is very different to how you conceive of it. I get that your mum is a bad alcoholic and it makes sense to be infuriated about it but you're misunderstanding the problem. drunks may as well have their goddamn wallet sucked out of their pocket. that's how it works.
