It's kind of weird that we're going to have the CIA dispose of an American president and it's going to be for the most insane bull shit like a 3 ring circus of running around chasing muslims. Whatever. We're all going to die eventually either way, I guess it's not worth getting mad about.

this is not the whole story, since the process requires motion. i mention this because i recall a story about a religious couple who went to a doctor because they were having trouble having sex and after some questions he suggested that the man move his penis back and forth and later found out that solved the problem entirely

you know trump has this instinctive talent for both television and fascism that it's really remarkable. polls indicating terrible poll ratings two months in and giant protests across the country? have a rally! point the cameras at it! look at all these people who still like me. it's so simple and plays off the way the media works. trump could have a 10% approval rating and he could find a crowd of thousands that support him, somewhere in america, and it works the same way as footage showing the iraqis who were happy that we invaded

a couple big stories out right now where a bunch of people close to trump are complaining that he's unable to stay focused on anything because he keeps flipping out whenever he looks at a TV. there's no real angle to these as leaks but it wouldn't surprise me if they were genuine complainers because he brought a whole bunch of professional shit-talkers and gossips in with him among the set that isn't part of Washington's chosen elite, and over the next few months they're likely to be moved out and more and more of the "managed" types are likely to be brought in to take their places.

White House Defends Removing NSC Official Who Criticized Trump

. . . Deare had been selected for the role by Michael Flynn, who resigned as Trump’s national security adviser on Feb. 13 after the president and vice president lost confidence in his credibility because he misled them about a conversation with a Russian envoy.

Politico first reported Deare’s dismissal. The former Army intelligence officer reportedly criticized Trump and others in the administration during a roundtable discussion at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington last week.

Deare’s targets were said to have included chief strategist Stephen Bannon and senior adviser Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, as well as disarray at the NSC in general.

Trump’s Secretary of State Wants Assata Shakur Re-Imprisoned

U.S. President Donald Trump's pick for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, has set an aggressive tone for his stance on radical activists: in a recent interview, he made clear he wants to re-imprison on U.S. soil former Black Liberation Army revolutionary Assata Shakur, who has been living in exile in Cuba for three decades.

US Media Claim Cuba Could Extradite Assata Shakur, Despite All Evidence to the Contrary

News outlets in the United States have published speculative reports. . . suggesting Cuba is willing to exchange Assata Shakur in a prison swap deal with the U.S.

. . . In 2014 following the warming of relations between both countries, the Cuban foreign ministry’s head of North American affairs, Josefina Vidal, told the Associated Press that “Every nation has sovereign and legitimate rights to grant political asylum to people it considers to have been persecuted.”

In March 2015, Cuba's Deputy Director for American Affairs, Gustavo Machin, said such a move is completely "off the table".

This seems difficult to discuss without thinking someone is going to pop up and accuse me of being a fascist who wants everyone to burn in ovens, but it seems like once in a while the "fake news!!!" screaming is actually accurate, even though it's probably just a stopped clock thing.

For example, in retrospect the AP story on national guard mobilization was probably nothing. The details of the memo make it clear that certain members of the NG could be authorized to act with certain powers if desired. It's essentially built around the already existing regulations, as claimed (though obviously this is just the legalist justification of fascism and I haven't done the legal research to see how wrong they are). There's also no evidence that the memo was actually distributed (seems like the states would have participated in the story, if they'd actually received it).

I understand the PR logic of constantly screaming fake news at everything, but I don't understand AP's logic of hyberbolizing to such an extreme that the accusation becomes plausible once in a while. In an environment like this you don't need to exaggerate anything, the truth is already insane enough, and it just lends credence to the admin. Is it just pure money/views greed? Are they just stupid? How is "write down what the fascists are literally doing" a difficult thing to do? Are they willfully complicit in the fake news / confuse everyone / seed intense distrust narrative?

going to be busy as Heck today but i've been thinking about this and i hope i can write a detailed reply sometime soon, about how this ties into the evolution of a perpetual campaign cycle (liberals with Hillary 2020 and the premature grooming of Chelsea Clinton, left-liberals with "Bernie Would Have Won"—possibly true but also irrelevant given the realities that everyone knew would perform a recuperative function, Republicans with Trump's rallies and critical support from Congress, etc.) and the way it build up pressure over things like "aware" Democrats knowing something fishy was going on with Libya but dedicated to "running to the right" of the Republicans, leading to the triumph of "fake news" as an idea that appeals universally because the news is, let's face it, usually fake. for now i'll note that while i predicted Trump would begin firing high-level appointees for going off script in his first 100 days, i also suggested that Assata Shakur might be moved quietly without formal process to the U.S. in Obama's last days with little impact on U.S.-Cuban normalization because i underestimated the support for her refugee status in left Latin America, a failure of wrong thinking i ascribe to bourgeois ideology i have yet to purge. ttyl
#498
as a teaser before the storm hits today i'll mention that there were at least a couple Democrat thinkers such as John Cole who did apply all the socially-permitted lessons of Iraq to Libya at the start and predicted exactly what we see there now as the result, but by the time even the mainstream press had to admit the entire country had gone ass-up they had re-dedicated their discussion to insubstantial feel-good Obama-boosting parasitism off Black Lives Matter and were not allowed to claim victory. Freddie deBoer worked his way up through John Cole's blog and we see what he puts out now, the whole "communists are always right but it doesn't matter because everything is too fucked, vote for Bernie you stupid tankie" business, and i think there's a closer tie there that a lot of leftists understandably don't see because reading ornery Democrat blogs is just plain soul-crushing.

"Fake news" was an obvious misstep by The Liberal Media since the news is, and always has been, fake & there were a bunch of articles saying as much at the time, though they refused to admit to their detestable fakeness.

They need to keep the audience happy and the storyline is that everything Trump does is an insane breach of precedent, usually because of RasPutin. I think it's a combination of stupidity, greed, and a new sense of mission that fulfills the press elite fantasies of being bold truth-tellers. Now there's this habit of calling everything Trump says a lie or a blunder even when it isn't, which makes him angry at them, which makes them seem important.

milo destroyed his career among normies by "pulling a McCaine"
#504
right, so fake news faked the fake news about some fake news being fake news, that fake news then responded with fake outrage that its fake news had been called fake news by fake news, producing fake news in response to fake news calling its news fake, about how its fake news wasnt fake and how the other fake news was fake news, including the fake news about how the other fake news was fake news. ok, everyone with me?, now this is where it starts to get complic
#505
i guess it just bugs me because "fake news" is actually correct so it puts me in the position of having to go "yes, but" or "yes, and". which i guess accurately describes the world as being comedy improv with the USG
#506
The purpose of calling out "fake news" is not to communicate anything to the other side, it's to tell your own people which kinds of story to ignore. People only need one or two examples of something to perceive a pattern. If it can be shown that anyone in the opposing camp lied or engaged in hypocrisy, nobody in that camp can be trusted on the subject. A current interesting example is facebook conservatives saying that Lena Dunham is an "admitted pedophile" (they describe incest in a memoir) yet anti-Milo people love Lena Dunham. I really wish they would use Woody Allen instead

An embattled White House terrorism advisor whose academic credentials have come under widespread fire telephoned one of his main critics at home Tuesday night and threatened legal action against him, Newsweek has learned.

#511
this is what i mean about so many people brought into the White House recently not being "managed" in the D.C. fashion, they don't understand the way to respond to a journalist questioning your national security credentials is to have agents call them or just send some agents around to their house to "ask questions" about their sources for a recent story, about a recent trip they took to another country and who they talked to while they were there, etc.

if you just do that, then the journalist reports on it as intimidation, feels brave & "American" and all their peers in the press think "oh well he sucks as a journalist because if he didn't, he'd have put his tongue up enough people's asses to make sure this never happened to him, we'd better stay away from him and his stories if we want to keep getting anonymous information leaks." now instead the story is how the guy in the White House thinks he can hack the Matrix by using his personal cell phone, it's all about who can be shamed for not knowing the drill.
#512
plus if you go the home visit route then anyone who agrees with you already who reads the guy's story about what a brave little manlet he is to get punked on will then think, "oh that dude's secret Hamas" or whatever, don't threaten a lawsuit thats some blogger shit.

Under [Cook County and federal prosecutor Bob Milan and his friend former deputy U.S. Marshal Jim Smith's] plan, concrete blocks would be brought in to block roughly half of the exits [to black neighborhoods in Chicago], and the others would be controlled by National Guard, with law enforcement cameras at those spots. Inside the perimeter, the streets would be saturated with city and state police, the Cook County Sheriff's police and federal law enforcement.

The real issue here is that he chose to eat steak with ketchup, which decisively shows that he has severe brain damage and belongs in an assisted living group home. America should be ashamed that Mr. Trump isn't getting the care that he needs.
