i started an edit war on wikipedia by just showing up on the talk page for kim jong-un and saying, hey half the people listed on the section for "executions" have ended up being confirmed alive in later reports, maybe you shouldn't use news articles citing unconfirmed rumors from south korean dailies?

I still have some questions about the video I posted though. At the end when all the patients are thanking the Kims instead of the doctors, what's the deal with that? Are the subtitles wrong, or is that just a cultural thing the NK people believe? Also, why do they restrict filming/photos so much? Is it to prevent the western media from manipulating the images or something?

i can't see the vid because it's geoblocked for me, but i will say that while i think there is clear evidence generally of what might be called "cult of personality" stuff going on in DPRK re:the Kims, i think western reporting of it is pretty exaggerated and its significance severely overstated. i understand that stuff, to the extent that it exists, as appreciation for a strong anti-imperialist figurehead in the face of decades of brutal imperialist aggression and oppression.

as for restrictions on filming etc, the accounts i've seen from communists who have visited DPRK makes sense - you actually don't get so tightly restricted to guided tours and have your camera use restricted if you don't act like an obnoxious dickhead and establish mutual trust by your behaviour. it makes a lot of sense to me that citizens from enemy countries will not have such faith placed in them by default and need to earn it! don't forget also that a lot of the people complaining about that stuff aren't even neutral tourists but journalists working for western media companies and why the heck should DPRK authorities trust them when the result is garbage like the vice guide to north korea

also weird that they'd trot him out so soon after a massive scandal resulted in the impeachment of that president and the discrediting of her party's ability to lead

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jun/01/true-or-false-kooky-north-korea-stories

Now, with Kim’s son Kim Jong-un in charge, the rumour business is booming. In the past three years, we’ve learned that Kim 2.0 executed a Pyongyang traffic lady for sneezing (false); was voted 2012’s “sexiest man alive” (false); poisoned his aunt Kim Kyong-hui (false); assassinated his pop-singer girlfriend Hyon Song-wol for making porn (false); and oversaw the Sony Pictures hack in retaliation for the Kim Jong-un assassination spoof, The Interview (debatable).

When he disappeared for a month in 2014, there was speculation he had been ousted by a coup (false); killed by his generals (false); contracted gout (who knows?); or broken his ankle after growing fat from eating cheese (he does appear to have gained weight).

Hmm, apparently, the only true thing is that he's fat. Has tHE rHizzonE determined whether or not, he is fat?

it's most definitely exaggerated, but there's also a huge amount of hypocrisy coming from westerners who worship useless CEOs and war criminal presidents.
