If you think of it back in the medevil ages the only fuel source was wood and coal. They used a lot of it. Granted not as meany ppl back then or in biblical time but that is all they used. Up to the nuclear age it was all coal and wood for fuel. Well some hydro plants in the 30's but not a lot. No global warming then and we put a lot more stuff in the air back then then we do now.
Simple the effect of the planet on one of its cycles. As the earth wobbles on its axes. it affects the weather patterns.
