Proposal for founding a "Department of Offense"

This department would be responsible for any and all offensive military operations that take place outside of United States and allied soil. For example, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars would be conducted by the Department of Offense, while the National Guard and the Coast Guard would be part of the Department of Defense.

The fundamental problem with the current state of affairs is that we have a Department of Defense that supervises all agencies and functions of government that are related to the US military. The reason this is a problem is because lumping everything under the term "defense" sabotages critical thinking when it comes to politics and budget allocation. The vast majority of operations the DoD conducts are not defensive in nature. It is not defending against enemy invasions.

The Scary Republican Base

Kos yesterday announced the results of a survey of self-identified republicans, and some of those results are quite interesting. (Detailed data)

Perpetual War in Mali - French intervention thread

That's all bullshit.

The notion that Libya has been plunged into racial, genocidal in-fighting and has become a "Terror-Emirate" would be laughed at by Libyan friends of mine, who live in Libya, and have been through the entire ordeal there. One of whom fought for his freedom, and gladly welcomed NATO planes overhead. The situation is far from ideal, and far from stable, but I would argue that the trajectory of Egypt is much worse, with Tunisia not far behind in terms of Islamist take-overs.

And just as the NTC in Libya was not equivalent to the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, the opposition in Syria is not all Islamist terrorists. the LIFG was one of many factions that unified under the predominantly secular NTC for the purposing of ridding Libya of Gadaffi. It's why the West must support the secular elements within these groups, as we did in Libya. And as we should be doing in Syria (we're barely providing any help at all because we fear the Islamist elements). The Islamists have plenty of overseas backers, the democratic secularists should too.

Algeria waged its own war of barbarism against the barbaric Islamists, and won only by scorching the earth.

Like I said, that article (which you seem to have quoted the entirety of — that's a no-no) is all bullshit. It's also morally vacuous to wish one society doomed to murderous autocracy simply to save one from having to defend another.

PLEASE ALLAH ROAST THEM IN FIRE
