empathy is a mammal instinct, like nursing, unknown to the majority of life not just now but through antiquity.

mammals are a small fraction of vertebrate animals by species number, population size, and biomass, an insignificant fraction of animals generally, and an invisible fraction of lifeforms. yet the instinct of empathy - a neurological response to suffering deriving from an offspring-protecting instinct - is known only to mammals. the vast majority of other life sees no value in it; crocodiles do not fret over their eggs, tuna do not cry over the suffering of other tuna inside a shark's mouth, ferns do not whine piously on internet forums over the fact that amoebas are being butchered by the millions in mechanized death camps Orwelilanally known as "water treatment plants."

most mammals do not even care about empathy in a natural setting. the wolf happily disembowels the deer, despite their both being mammals. lions will kill lion babies that do not share their genetic background. "tamed" - that is to say, genetically brainwashed and perverted into weakness and compliance by homo sapiens - mutated collaborator-wolves do indeed show empathy for other species, usually one and that of their slavemaster, but even then usually only to a small number, any others to be treated as enemies.

so not only is empathy a purely mammalian insanity, it is most clearly a human insanity. but even among humans its applicability is more like that of the wolf than that of the ideal that liberalism has constructed. for most of human history, the idea that someone was filth and deserved to die screaming because they lived four miles away was the norm. as time went on, racial or nationalistic inventions supplanted tribal ones, but even today, the most empathetic person in the first world lives in a pit of despair where 75% of their fellow humans live in grinding agony and billions of animals are confined, tortured and murdered annually for the pleasure of the dominant species. if anything, if we were to quantify "suffering" we would find it at its highest point today, despite our claims of how much we care.

and that is fine! mammals have existed for roughly 100 million years. dinosaurs alone lasted over three times that long. humans have existed for about 200,000 years, and only because we completely and mercilessly genocided the other hominids. rather than holding up empathy - this exceedingly recent, exceedingly ill-applied madness - as our great principle, we should instead reject it as the evolutionary dead end that it is, and join our ancestors and the rest of life in seeking solutions uninhibited by the irrelevant consideration of others.

16 "To what shall I compare this generation? It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another,
17 'We played the flute for you, but you did not dance, we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.'
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said, 'He is possessed by a demon.'
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said, 'Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.' But wisdom is vindicated by her works."

pull back to the power of one. who has more visible mpact on the world, mosquitoes or humans. humans, because they have satellites. pull back to the power of ten. who has more impact on the world? identical. to the power of 100? identical. 1000? identical. 10,000? same. 100,000? same. 1,000,000? same. humanity's ascension over mosquitoes is self-absorbed chauvinism

It is not for kings, Lemuel—
it is not for kings to drink wine,
not for rulers to crave beer,
lest they drink and forget what has been decreed,
and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.
Let beer be for those who are perishing,
wine for those who are in anguish!
Let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.
