This Mormon alt right white nationalist twitter mom has been gaining a large following, which really upsets me bc I'm working hard laying down the ministry of Christ through socialism on twitter(trademark)

I've been tweeting with her for months and just the other day she hit some threshold where buzzfeed wrote an article about her then a local rag then some other trash national media & she's blowing up.

I'm steaming bc I believe it's crucial that in the cultural war & class war, having Christians united in overcoming capitalism, seeing capitalism as anti-Christian, is the best way to effectively move people, shattering through the wall of ideology.

Anyway a parody account just went up @purposefulbigot & im praying this parody account can do some good work, I hope it's a smart person operating it.

I privately messaged the troll account first and assured them that she is a family woman first of all & that highlighting contradictions or absurdities is okay but that they should never do anything cruel or harmful.

Christianity had a radical emancipatory core in its theology that gives it unique potential for revolutionary movements

The Christian idea that all people are equal before God, all are fallen, the entire message of the Gospel is anti-capitalist, the first Christians at Pentecost basically formed a commune, & the unique theological idea that God Himself has been forsaken, disaplaced from himself, should be a rallying call for revolutionaries everywhere.

christianity is a religion by slaves for slaves

it is true that christianity, at least as presented in the gospels and not in average practice, has sympathy for the poor. but it also praises poverty as virtuous, it preaches non-resistance to evil. how does it tell us we should regard poverty? first, to those who are able, by voluntary charity (backed up by empty threat of eternal torture), then by accepting one's station on the empty promise of paradise after death. it isn't a revolutionary philosophy. it's difficult to say that it is opposed to capitalism when it predates capitalism by nearly millennia and doesn't even analyze why there is poverty, or suggest steps to prevent it.

if we were to take the general events of the story of jesus as roughly accurate, minus the magic, have you ever wondered why the people wanted jesus fucking murdered while Pilate, the imperialist occupier generally cool with torturing people to death by the thousands for petty crimes, was generally predisposed to not punishing him? could it be at least somewhat that Jesus was telling the occupied and poor that God told them to not resist the romans, to accept poverty, and they would be rewarded in the afterlife?

Anyway you might get something out of this. It's a longer YouTube but it's a pretty definitive takedown of protestantism as revolutionary

Especially Mormonism, it's a settler colonialist fanfic of the Bible

Thank you for sharing I loved this video. I actually agree with most of what he said, there are just a few points I would disagree with but overall it was fantastic.

However, I don't see the conclusion as being that Christianity is necessarily a religion of the oppressor, he explains how Jesus was a revolutionary & the gospel is a revolutionary event. He explains how the Roman Empire sought to co-opt Christianity after hundreds of years of trying to suppress the growing movement. Then he also explains how Africans in the United States found a revolutionary potential in Christianity. That's exactly what I'm insisting upon.

Yes Christianity can be used by the oppressor but since it has a revolutionary core, why shouldn't revolutionary movements embrace Christianity & reclaim it from the ruling class?

If revolutionaries decided to join churches & take the scriptures seriously and apply the Gospel as it's written, there can be an insistence on turning the church into a place for organization.

I mean the original Christians, as told in the book of Acts, basically formed a commune & went around teaching & building a movement.

There's power in Christianity, but I think it's foolish to let the oppressor have a monopoly on such a powerful organizational force

Well I engage with other Christians that I know & challenge them to be true to the Gospel & recognize how capitalism destroys everything good that Jesus spoke about.

But when I talk to other left wing people about Christianity being a valuable part of revolutionary struggle I get far more resistance

historically, organizing has been most successful when actions and strategy are based on analyzing and responding to material factors. communists have no problem utilizing religious rhetoric or concepts to support strategies based on material analysis. where you get hostility is that your arguments seem to present the idea christianity is the path to socialism rather than dialectical materialism, which is the core of marxist thought and practice. the idea that devotion to theological principles can effectively change class relations in society simply is ahistorical, class relations in society shape theological principles.

to answer your question: why shouldnt communists embrace christianity and reclaim it, it is because it is a shaky foundation for class struggle. omali utilizes faith effectively in the video, as a rhetorical tool for ideas grounded in marxism
