With Obama winning the nation by a projected 3% of the popular vote, let's look at white males once again to recognize what is wrong with this country. Some data from Florida is not in yet, and this thread will be updated as exit poll data becomes more available, but let's look at some figures and compare them to the national vote.

Compared to the national total:
-Whites 18-29: 44-51 (+9 R)
-White males 18-29 (projected): 42-56 (+11 R)
-White males: 35-64: (+18 R)
-Non-whites: 80.5-19.5 (+27.5 D)
-Whites: 39-59 (+14 R)

Compared to each other:
-White-nonwhite difference: (+41.5 R)
-White male-nonwhite difference: (+44.5 R)
-White male-black difference: (+58 R)
-White male-white female difference: 35-42 (+7 R)

These results are substantially more divided than they were even in 2008.

And here's the map if whitey had his way:

Hey Audrey I’ve been meaning to ask you this for a while and you don’t have to give a long response, just point me in the right direction, but how serious is America’s debt issue?

Liberals seem to play it down and stuff but I heard today that each man woman and child in America owes $50K debt which seems pretty ridiculous. I’ve heard that “it doesn’t matter because America prints their own money” but in my brain this doesn’t seem like a logical reason to erase debts incurred

Basically idgi

the debt isn't a problem as long as they do modest tax increases on the well-off over time or something. the problem is more that if something bad happens to the economy that there isn't a lot of wiggle room for a large stimulus.

port richard voted to join the US.

i wonder if people against american imperialism will support annexing a colony just because the republicans on the island support it and white people in the mainland oppose it.

socialists usually support puerto rican independence....

In 2000, 2004, and 2008, the difference between the white male vote and the national vote was an average of 11.8 points. In this election it was about 18 points. White males were fully 50% worse than they have been over the last decade.
#14
The white-nonwhite difference this year was 41.5 points, and the white-black difference in votes this year was 54 points. This is greater than the difference between:

18-24 year olds and 65 years and over (16 points)
Liberals and moderates (30 points)
Conservatives and moderates (39 points)
Democrats and independents (47 points)
Republicans and independents (38 points)
The biggest educational difference, those with no high school and those with college degrees (17 points)
Those who make less than 50k and those who make 100k or more (16 points)
Those who never go to church and those who go more than weekly (26 points)
Heterosexuals and gays/bisexuals (23 points)
Utah and Hawaii (45 points)
White males in Mississippi and white males in Vermont (30 points)

Concise, thanks.

The conservatives here whinged and screamed so bad about labor “wasting” the previous Con government’s surplus even though we avoided recession, the debt is pretty tiny, and the budget is going back into surplus next year

Btw thanks forum for various posts throughout the place. I’m still not strong on it but can offer up pretty good critiques of free market capitalism to various liberal friends now.

When I pointed out the stagnant growth of the UK, Ireland, Greece under austerity and privatization she was like “that’s just because of politics! Market Capitalist countries have some very solid growth rates right now!” and quoted me Singapore, Malaysia and Belarus(!)

She’s an economist for the reserve bank.

2/3rds of the american federal debt is held by social security, medicare, federal employee pension funds, investment portfolios for old people, etc. i think the usual suspect investment banks got hold of a piece of it during the bush regime but that was like a few billions, nothing really significant on the scale involved

all the hooting and hollering about it is largely fantasy racist nonsense about how china owns so much of the american debt they can something something bad and scary because inscrutable yellow menace hates freedom.

#19
i think cutting the national debt is euphemism for cutting social insurance

one does not need to be an obamailure to recognize that white males are right-wing shit. they're choosing to vote against obama because he is too left wing for their tastes (or is alleged to be so), not because he is not left wing enough. white males vote consistently double-digits more conservative than the national average, and this is demonstrably true across the last six presidential elections

#32
i understand fully if one does not like obama. but white voters didn't not vote for obama because of his drone programs or even necessarily because of his economic policies. they vote republican consistently for two reasons: first, because republicans paint themselves as defenders of values ostensibly important to white men, such as self-reliance, masculinism, and toughness, and bash democrats as being opposed to these. second, and more important is the flip side of the coin of why women and minorities vote for democrats: republicans oppose programs that aggrandize or help women and minorities at the perceived or real expense of white male privilege, such as welfare, food stamps, feminism, affirmative action, immigration reform, gay rights, reproductive freedom, etc, etc.

yeah the sydney morning herald posted a story about this on their fb page and ireplied

Sorry I’ve thought about this more and it’s really grinding my gears. I watched the Australian Story a few weeks ago about the struggles of the Sydney Morning Herald.

I saw the Urban Affairs reporter’s voice quiver after he was deliverered his redundancy notice

! saw the passion in the tears of the Education reporter losing her job after many years

We saw the departure of Malcolm Brown, court reporter extraordinaire and defender of the Chamberlain’s against the kind of braying mob mentality you are whipping up here.

And for what? So you can conjure up a 2 minute hate at a poor teenage girl on the other side of the world who was a bit misinformed about politics. Let’s go and ask your 17 year old self who the President of Chile is and see how strong and tough you are.

Is this “generational change” in the media? Is this the "innovation" we have been promised? The SMH will always have a place in my heart for kindling and fostering my love of current affairs as a child, for helping to explain the city and the world around me. It has a proud legacy.

And now? The most trivial and shallow manifestation of gossip and mockery possible, a pettiness that would make Hello! Magazine turn away and pretend not to know you.

Are you proud of your job? Are you proud of being a ‘journalist’? This actually makes me sick, and you should hang your heads in shame.

the site of my countrymen being so "heh" about it was sickening.
