socialism can potentially make up for that with increased investment. plus, there's more.
the relative decline of socialist economies in the 80s wasnt due to mystical processes of failing to catch up with the it revolution or innovation led growth or the new economy or whatever, because soviet tfp growth was no lower than the west. it was because the ussr had already reached the world average development level and could go no further, while the west surpassed it because of extraction of developing world surplus through cheap commodity prices.
to make an analogy, usa = dubai artifical palm island zero carbon city, ussr = picked up by own bootstraps
the best marxist investment strategy is the same as the peter schiff strategy. investing in commodities is a very socialist/malthusian thing to do, and it makes sense when developing countries finally start industrializing and crowding out ameribese resource consumption.
also subsidizing failed enterprises is not inherently socialist, the more monetary subsidy is required to run an economy the more it starts to become a market one
