people are so stupid and crazy they refuse to not protect themselves and their kids from disease because (paranoid incoherent witchcraft)
#2
also it's cool how selfish and amoral they are in addition to their stupid insanity, i'm not injecting Toxins into my little Tylar and Beckee just to protect a bunch of other people's kids

polio vaccine, yes. flu vaccine no. i take vaccines to keep myself and others safe, not to enrich private for-profit companies that browbeat me into taking their bullshit. Taking vitamins has proven to be far more beneficial in fighting the flu than this for profit product pushed by the government and wal-mart. but yeah guys hoorah lets let the government pump whatever they want into us and our children without question, if we've learned anything in the past 12 years it is that the government is trustworthy am i right http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuskegee_syphilis_experiment

why has the propaganda machine mobilized all manner of reddit trash to come to the valiant defense of vaccines at this point in time? public health? maybe. other motives? maybe. idk

reminds me of the "you must eat genetically modified organisms" hype that your normal brooklyn / san francisco types were blabbering about recently. GMO's, above all else, are just a great way for individuals to own what should be the shared property of humanity (genetic information).

im not smart about these things so if someone could decide my opinion for me itt that would be great (tia)

if you sift through the memes about this most of them mash together misogyny and science!!! bullshit. like, look at how stupid these women are for not trusting the health industry or whatever. it does make me wonder if it's like... clustered values marketing or something.

like the meat industry doesn't put out ads that say vegetarianism is stupid. they fund groups that criticize PETA for operating 'kill' shelters. and that makes PETA look bad and then there are less vegetarians.

women are stupid though, as they are a subset of humans

women are crazy in more common, passive and evenly-distributed ways than men. once or twice a year a man spikes to a full 10 on the crazy scale and kills and injures two dozen kids. a couple million women hit about a 6 over "Toxins" and kill and injure a few thousand

every year we commemorate the montreal massacre where some asshat clowned on some female engineering students at polytechnique. and every year a bunch of neckbeards say that that's just a crazy guy and that it doesn't say much about violence against women. but they miss the point, because it doesn't matter as much that the guy was crazy so much as the fact that he was led to believe that killing a bunch of ladies was a good way to act out that crazy.

your belief that anti-vaccination hysteria is entirely or mostly based in women is a fiction of misogynist selection bias. maybe you should take a break from reddit for a while, you've become indistinguishable from the people you make fun of

#18
i disagree with barbarossa on the flu vaccine. the reason we don't vaccinate for the common cold is that it has even more strains and mutates more frequently and unpredictably than influenza. you can at least isolate influenza down to the most dominant strain in each of the four category and make educated guesses using statistics to determine which one will be the most virulent. will you be wrong? maybe, but if 2 strains happen to spread worldwide, you may protected from one and not the other. also everyone i know has not had to pay out of pocket for their shot, so i'm not sure it's a massive money making scheme.

i could be sheeple on this, i dont know

i looked this up and it appears that men and women poll at roughly the same level of stupidity wrt vaccines, with men in fact slightly worse. to be fair, though, this single datapoint does not invalidate the greater trend

goat, we've both got the blowhard gene. we want to blow hard. but we've got to be careful. there's a war on.

it should be possible to criticize the profit motivated degeneracy of your health infrastructure while simultaneously understanding that vaccinations are important and everyone should get them as a matter of both personal safety and moral responsibility. this isn't a difficult concept!

I'm not sure, it's either "the trend of continuing to harbor idiotic and harmful beliefs with regards to vaccinations in the face of overwhelming evidence because they conform to a pathetic childish worldview," which goatstein hates, or "the trend of continuing to harbor idiotic and harmful beliefs with regards to women in the face of overwhelming evidence because they conform to a pathetic childish worldview," which goatstein loves

#26
i don't think i deeply hold any negative opinions about women specifically that are not substantiated by a preponderance of evidence
#27

well it makes money for capitalism/employers in general by increasing overall work productivity and therefore surplus-value. so if ur actually serious about smashing capitalism u should seek out the flu then cough on everyone on the bus. thats my praxis for socialism anyway.

ok well back on topic i think that the anti-vax movement is based on disgust with the capitalist medical system. we should channel this popular sentiment away from toxins and towards revolutionary communism

capitalism has seized this as an opportunity to monetize anti-scientific nonsense (insurance covers homeopathy, chiropractors can prescribe meds, etc) and look "patient-focused" at the same time. We need to show how the same cynical profit-seeking behavior acts here and use this as an example of how capitalism is anti-scientific and that the people need science based medicine and scientifically correct marxism
#38
abstaining from vaccination is basically like low grade biological terrorism against capitalism and therefore morally correct
#39
that sounds like a pretty good idea quavers, but remember

like any problem that could be solved by attacking its source, that source has been thoroughly obfuscated in the public discourse. there's a fracture between the actual source of disgust (mercenary corporate health infrastructure) and what people have been taught to believe is the source of their distress (immigrants, commie mutant traitors, islamic wizards) and we have to break down that entire propaganda construct. like that's why there is an anti-vaccination movement in the first place, all the righteous anger at a decrepit and sinister medical system has been diverted onto ridiculous fantasies because even if it murders millions that's better for capitalism than truth.

if you wish to expose the contradictions of capitalism, you must first invent the universe
