It's because they think that a lot of people in government-held areas want to overthrow Assad but have no capacity to do so (because the government targets them and because they don't want to fall to jihadists). Their idea is that if everyone sort of played fair that the government would fall to popular forces. There might be a grain of truth to this but it is a childish view of how conflicts actually work. It's like how they call for a worker's revolution in Cuba without thinking how that would actually play out at this moment.

i am continually impressed at how the iso can make any article about Stalin. To be fair, they do make a great connection between the communists who thought Stalin was the biggest problem as germany was annexing territory and leftists today who claim that Russia and Iran are the real problem.

i don't know anything about socialistworker, can someone explain to me why they seem to be supporting the west with overthrowing assad? you would think a socialist organization would be smart enough not to be lured into imperialist propaganda but...

thirdcampist thought (ie neither washington nor moscow) degenerated into support for any popular movement before the end of the cold war, but is especially visible now. cliffites, such as the International Socialist Organization and Socialist Workers Party (UK) are especially susceptible, as they push the socialism from below line. this is also a current of thought inside the Democratic Socialists of America. the ISO supported the mujaheddin - Islamic State is no big leap.

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the President shall submit to the appropriate congressional committee a report that—

(1) assesses the potential effectiveness, risks, and operational requirements of the establishment and maintenance of a no-fly zone over part or all of Syria, including—

(A) the operational and legal requirements for United States and coalition air power to establish a no-fly zone in Syria;

(B) the impact a no-fly zone in Syria would have on humanitarian and counterterrorism efforts in Syria and the surrounding region; and

(C) the potential for force contributions from other countries to establish a no-fly zone in Syria

The Washington Post writeup on this is 100% about bipartisan sanctions but this is what worries me, how long do we have until they go from "dang those sanctions didn't take" to "well this report says no-fly will work"?

well the government has recaptured 40% of terrorist held aleppo over the past couple of days (including the water pumping stations which terrorists had used to deprived the entire 1.5 million population from water)

there were only 10,000 civilians in the area which is in line with the syrian government's estimate of 40-60,000 civilians under terrorist control.

it will be a tough job for warmonger politicians and media to keep up this #holocaust narrative

oh sure.
it seems like the more important nodes in their network such as the syria campaign and the white helmets coordinate very closely with western governments; for example a few months ago they made a big propaganda push called #AleppoIsBurning with lots of clicktivism and media stunts in western cities, just before a UN vote where their governments were supposed to bow to popular pressure and declare ww3.

their propaganda is full full of holes (and dumb, not surprising when you remember that its dreamed up by 20 something new york/london interns who 'dont need to know anything about syria' in their job description)... for example they came up with a hashtag called #breakthesiege which was to highlight that assad was starving aleppo by denying the people living there food.

(that the syrian goverment was offering food to east aleppo as well as safe passage out for both civilians and terrorist, but that this was blocked by alqaeda is the small lie to disprove in this case)

but of course the real siege that is going on is the blocking of food and medicine and basic supplies to the 20 or so milllion syrian people via EU & US sanctions, the same crime that killed half a million iraqi babies.
it seems to slip under their radar if you use their words to make the opposite point, they agree without parsing what you say as long as it fits a particular form.
i should be doing something else with my time

thanks to the American doctrine that resistance to an illegal invasion constitutes terrorism, if anyone mounts any defense against the Turks they can invoke the NATO treaty and start ww3.

It's too late. Assad's victory in Aleppo is imminent. Bashar Al-Assad has accomplished the first stage of his strategy - the crushing of moderate resistance through mass terror and unlimited state violence. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of people will be systematically murdered by the State over the coming weeks and months. The war will now shift into a new phase where military opposition to the regime will be directed by jihadist guerillas (rather than the current popular mobilization to fight a conventional war against the Government) and Syria's people will live under Iranian occupation and in the shadow of the guillotine.

Highly problematic to find assad wasting tax dollars blowing up so many manequins when there is a war on, absolutly unacceptable behaviour for a head of state imo
