so anyway it bears mentioning that Sweden has a bilateral treaty with the US with a 'temporary surrender mechanism' so if Assange gets a conviction in Sweden, then he can be extradited to the US. its pretty ambiguous, so maybe he can get extradited even without a conviction. i'm guessing if UK and the US had a similar understanding, it would be unenforceable in the UK since Assange didn't break any laws there. but apparently there is no similar clause in UK-US treaties so the argument is moot
