if you can't actually come up with a proper way to argue that socialism, or whatever your pet political philosophy is, is in your rational self-interest, then you're not really trying

if your question is actually, you know, "what political ideology will most get you the shit you want and fuck everyone else in the process", ... well duh, capitalism. i'm really good at capitalism.

Shitting out butts is about the only real universal experience amongst humans, and even if you got 7 billion people to broadly agree on social and political issues, you're still trillions of brains short of something that could even begin to conceivably be termed a global consciousness.

A fantasy enabled by the strange and bittersweet gift of language, that's all.

Oh so that's what the 'we' meant, I didn't know Marx was a worker!

yeah language gives us the ability to constantly shift goalposts and feed our delusions and talk past each other which is why it's often all a bit pointless.

Hence, nothing prevents us from making criticism of politics, participation in politics, and therefore real struggles, the starting point of our criticism, and from identifying our criticism with them. In that case we do not confront the world in a doctrinaire way with a new principle: Here is the truth, kneel down before it! We develop new principles for the world out of the world’s own principles. We do not say to the world: Cease your struggles, they are foolish; we will give you the true slogan of struggle. We merely show the world what it is really fighting for, and consciousness is something that it has to acquire, even if it does not want to

This used to strike me as rousing and powerful but now I read it and just read bluster and rhetoric, the sort of long-winded graceless rant an ubernerd in a gaming session would employ to try and get mana points or whatever the fuck they play for. He even basically says 'I'm going to show them all!" in that bitter geek way.

it's k-rad when science people don't understand that science is also a bunch of best guesses that could all fall apart at any moment & the point of science is falsifiability. derp

that is good advice but years ago i registered for a biology class at public university and the lecturer threw in constant atheist propaganda in the lectures, babbling about how wonderful it was to have science instead of stupid myths, just here and there, in between diagramming protein synthesis pathways, "here is how glutamate is formed and this slide is a page from a comic book i drew about the final undeniable death of god once and forever fuck all u sheeple"

that kind of owns

it's rather telling that nobody has posted 'none'

I can't believe i used to look down my nose at people who refused to engage with or study politics and current affairs. What good does it do knowing of the constant lies, betrayal and conflict? So you can be outraged? depressed? cynical? sarcastic? So you can spend your life participating in mass delusional fantasies like 'History' or 'the Workers of the World' or any other God-substitute for people who think they're too smart to go to church.

It's so incredibly narcissistic, this pretension that the affairs of men have more nobility or legitimacy than a lion killing a zebra, or that the beauty of the Library of Alexandria was 1/10th that of a single lick of the flames that consumed it.

The happiest people i've ever met in my life have one thing in common: they couldn't give two figs about the nerd-death-cult that is politics.

the idea that human civilization can potentially be saved or should potentially be saved is a product of social isolation, a wddp-like belief in the goodness of people which is a shot in a dark of one's own habitually habitated room and inevitably the product of a lack of familiarity with exactly what kind of unspeakable garbage constitutes the majority of the homo sapien biomass. be out among the people everyday and understand their failures

Hope for human salvation goes back a little deeper than that.

Out among the people, one sees souls in need of redemption. A grand opportunity
