Yeah if anyone's interested in the reality behind the legend of Baby Huey P Newton this month is PhD application month. Hopefully I get a lucky break and end up in some shit college town studying under some withered old trot for the rest of my life. I'll be sure to let LF know how that works out, one day the journal of anime maoist third-worldist studies will exist

Good luck, man.

thanks man. you're one of the smartest people I "know" and I hope that one day we shall all join McCain in gay twink marxist academia

academia is horrible, though what we think of 'academia' has long been replaced by neo-liberal journal rankings, school rankings, adjunct professors, school debts, corporate takeovers, and identity politics. still, we all have to live somehow and people on this forum are the kind that would be natural academics in 1968 Paris instead of 2015 Galactic Empire. i'm still hoping things get better instead of worse

I can't really stand the atmosphere of academia---not that I can pretend that there isn't an element of sour grapes in that feeling.

some people are really good at teaching. but the whole academic system is really messed up. most learning occurs by following you're own desire and .. most of the time that takes place outside a classroom for most people
#2271
unless you're really into your academics which is cool and fine

It certainly was the case for me.

I won't be surprised if there is an exodus from the bloated college game because the diminished value of degrees, rising costs, exhaustion with its internal politics, and the collapse of the imperial welfare state makes entering the workforce earlier a more attractive and economically viable option for the middle class and middle class aspiring, populations that have been the natural social basis for the present expansion of the system. But that is perhaps being overly optimistic, considering the multiple ideological and economic uses that promoting access to college has for those wanting to prolong the present order. From their perspective, it would be hard to "improve" upon an arrangement that effectively multiplies indebtedness in exchange for increasingly empty conferrals of status while acculturating all the while useful (because "educated") dupes.

I know it's phd application month but some sort of emergency always happens right when that rolls around and so I end up kicking the idea around for another fucking year. soon I will be too old to conceivably have children and get my phd so the choice will be made for me... also I don't want to end up in some backwater college town studying under some withered trot and hanging out at jacobin reading groups

but we miss your movie reviews
