getfiscal why do you think some people can swing so wildly between, let's call them, fringe ideologies. Is there a common thread in the ideologies that appeals to them?

You have an unrealistic idea about orange shipping.

ah! you caught me! you're right, shipping 1000 miles by truck is pretty much negligible.

Do you think that if you are right that imported fruits should be considered a luxury item rather than a dietary staple, that will prove that people should eat red meat every day? Because i dont really give a shit either way about oranges, I just used it in my joke you fool.

My point is that the entire dietary infrastructure in the world is ecologically damaging to a huge degree anyways. Nutritionally balanced vegetarian diets are (for the most part) a completely modern invention and require a massive expenditure of fossil fuels. I mean, certainly many people lived (and still live) off of grain heavy diets, but malnutrition was high and was it offset by the intense physical toil of daily life. The fact is: all food is killing you in some way, and if you want some "optimal health" in terms of longevity, it would probably be some type extreme calorie restriction diet, and that would be even better for the environment!

As for red meat, the primary differences between it and white meat are what NazBro said. There are entire cultures that have survived with minimal eating of plants, and are more than healthy. Fuck, the inuit diet primarily consists of red meat, and they have amongst the lowest rates of coronary disease in the world.

yes, you basically typed up what i was too lazy to try to convey. Thank You Slav Brother from another mother-lund

the only contention is this The fact is: all food is killing you in some way, and if you want some "optimal health" in terms of longevity, it would probably be some type extreme calorie restriction diet

that's not entirely true. it's a commonly held misconception because the western world has become increasingly sedentary, and as a result unhealthy. regardless of what minimal level of calorie intake people ingest, they will still be unhealthy due to human bodies not being physiologically designed to sit hunched in a desk chair 8 hours a day. still though, suffice to say when a person is sedentary and expending little to no energy in excess of respiratory function, and eating large quantities of energy substrates (carbs being the worst offenders) there are accumulating deleterious effects to the internal mechanisms of body that are finely regulated in relation to metabolic function. thus, for a vast majority of people, especially americans, eating high protein, heavy in flesh food diets -- "keto" diets -- are healthier than diets heavy in carbohydrates, be it fruits, non-processed carbs or whatever people assume are "healthy foods" (which is a misnomer much in itself out of context of quantity). ideally, caloric intake should run fairly close in tandem with caloric expenditures over a given time frame -- week(s), month(s), whatever -- when speaking about optimal health. but, the whole neurosis over achieving "optimal health", a faux-immortality, maintained through daily asceticism, is an overreaching TedTV magic blueberry bullet. we are all dying irrespective of our diets; our diets are more aptly just quality of life decisions. and as such, for the average american, toiling away in his cubicle behind a keyboard trough, sipping on an inverted water bottle fixture, and grinding the wheel for eternity: eating the flesh of a pig and absorbing it's power -- the ability to subsist in a stye of shit and excess -- here is the panacea for the ails of post-modern man.

this is sad but i guess you're right, someone who lives a completely sedentary lifestyle probably isn't going to be helped by looking at the food pyramid 1 time in their whole life

The USA is Socialist. We have socialized education, roads, medicine, welfare, food, goods, and services like waste disposal, water, and electricity.

There is not one second of one day in an American's life where a government decision doesn't affect them.
There is no food that enters their mouth that doesn't have a government subsidy
There is no medicine that enters their veins that hasn't undergone government research and testing.
There is no building that was not approved by government inspector.

And it's all ridiculously expensive, low quality crap.

If this isn't socialism, what is?

a collectivized society wouldn't necessarily have to give a reasonable standard of living to everyone or in a remotely equitable fashion. e.g. north korea ahahahaha
