nuclear war is really overblown, unfortunately. the idea that radiation from fallout would last at dangerous levels for more than a week or two is pure science fiction. nuclear winter is also exaggerated. what we should really focus on doing is finding and capturing a K-T asteroid or bigger

my rational self-interest is to pursue the tilling of the social field for what will erupt as some form of socialism

it's rather telling that nobody has posted 'none'

I can't believe i used to look down my nose at people who refused to engage with or study politics and current affairs. What good does it do knowing of the constant lies, betrayal and conflict? So you can be outraged? depressed? cynical? sarcastic? So you can spend your life participating in mass delusional fantasies like 'History' or 'the Workers of the World' or any other God-substitute for people who think they're too smart to go to church.

It's so incredibly narcissistic, this pretension that the affairs of men have more nobility or legitimacy than a lion killing a zebra, or that the beauty of the Library of Alexandria was 1/10th that of a single lick of the flames that consumed it.

The happiest people i've ever met in my life have one thing in common: they couldn't give two figs about the nerd-death-cult that is politics.

i suggest everone in LF take a microbiology/anatomy course

if you are not filled with a sense of awe at the intricate complexities of the molecular dance that create us, billions of perfectly-timed reactions and counterreactions that result in you, you, a human being with ideas and cares and shitty posts and farts and strange worries then you have no poetry in your soul

Materialists are the least poetic people around. "oooh wow just think about the fact that you exist because the conditions required to make you exist happened", it's like talking to Ralph Wiggum

Hence, nothing prevents us from making criticism of politics, participation in politics, and therefore real struggles, the starting point of our criticism, and from identifying our criticism with them. In that case we do not confront the world in a doctrinaire way with a new principle: Here is the truth, kneel down before it! We develop new principles for the world out of the world’s own principles. We do not say to the world: Cease your struggles, they are foolish; we will give you the true slogan of struggle. We merely show the world what it is really fighting for, and consciousness is something that it has to acquire, even if it does not want to

This used to strike me as rousing and powerful but now I read it and just read bluster and rhetoric, the sort of long-winded graceless rant an ubernerd in a gaming session would employ to try and get mana points or whatever the fuck they play for. He even basically says 'I'm going to show them all!" in that bitter geek way.

We merely show the world what it is really fighting for, and consciousness is something that it has to acquire, even if it does not want to

'The World' is not a thing that fights, nor does it have a consciousness nor can it have one. Maybe this shit was groundbreaking at the time but so was Disco and I don't see twenty-somethings in flares.
