Yesterday, a coalition of America-led 'Allies' landed troops on the beaches of Normandy in what they allege will lead to regime change in Germany and the flowering of 'democratic' regimes. Promoted by hawkish liberals like President Roosevelt, his right-wing friends in London such as Churchill and the Stalinist dictator in Moscow, this war has greatly boosted American war profiteers given the massive demand for military equipment. Such is admitted by all.

What's less talked about is that invading the sovereign country of Germany, destroying its infrastructure and leadership, and occupying it in an endless war against alleged 'totalitarianism' will simply lead to millions of deaths. So why are the Allies so determined to destroy Germany? Is it really, as they say, for freedom and democracy and all those other good things? Let's be honest with ourselves. This war is happening for one reason: Hitler wouldn't behave. He bucked the global economic consensus by pursuing a full employment economy with large public works. He took over foreign-owned firms and regulated the financial sector. He made links with German tribes across the imperialist-drawn borders of Versailles. Worst of all, he started talking about socialism.

Was Hitler an 'aggressor'? It seems odd to throw such words around when America is dropping tonnes of dynamite on German children. Besides, the chief aim of socialists should be to prevent our own governments from committing crimes, not to impose some liberal-humanitarian worldview on countries ravaged by imperialism like Germany. Germany will become a democratic country, in time, but only if the working class in Germany organizes itself sufficiently to take on such tasks. Our part in this is to stop the rain of bombs so that Germans can determine their own future.

Surprisingly, agreed. US meddling in Europe stopped full socialist liberation, divided the German people, allowed the escape from justice of war criminals, and various unnecessary sieges, battles, and of course civilian casualties. UK and USSR had moral right of self defence,and no need for US armed support. US was engaged in self defense against Japan.n so, in conclusion, agreed, fived, and subscribed for more.

a book i'm reading has an aside on polls of soviet citizens in the early 1980s that asked what people liked about their lives and the most common answers were that they knew they could never get fired for their job no matter how much they slacked off or were bad at it and that they liked that they could get drunk at work and not get in trouble. which planners fretted about because it meant their economy had fail AIDS but when you think about it that's pretty close to utopia.
