in your experience, how receptive are other people toward marx? are there certain aspects of marxism that are more appealing than others? do certain types of people tend to become interested in what you have to say when the opportunity arises? have you ever successfully gotten others to read more about the subject, and if so, what are your methods?
#2
they think i am a fag
#3
marxism? what ? is that what you people have been talkjng about this whole time?
#4
i rarely mention the word "marx" for a start
#5
I feign apathetic apoliticism, which isn't all that far from the truth.
#6
I mainly just mount defences of religion, any sort of religious activity or belief.

i'm amazed just how godless my generation and peer group are.....they have been cut adrift from the bonds of history or tradition to a horrifying extent
#7
what have you said about killing the gays in Uganda so far
#8
Nothing but I did call a girl a racist for criticizing buju banton’s homophobia, that didn’t go down well

I've often unironically thought about becoming a jesuit or jansenist, despite never having been a catholic or particulary religious.

i think people assume i'm the kind of person that would wear this shirt

Who cares what the white liberal parasite thinks of keven. Keven forges his own way, and only the workers of the world may follow him.
#12
Keven abides.
#13
They think im a brilliant and genius man just like in the online communities as well
#14
my friends only really get annoyed when i defend the taliban for some reason
#15
My friends don't like it when I defend Abu Nazir.
#16
the only time i've discussed my political views with my high school friends since becoming leftist was when a now-corporate-lawyer said "so you're a communist now?" and i said "yeah i guess" and he said "i don't man, market economy seems to be doing pretty well" and i said "yeah, maybe in the future though" and then we moved on to other topics.

one time last year i tried to explain to my sister and her husband that i actually literally thought socialism was a good idea and that i wanted to spend a lot of time thinking about it. she told me that she learned about marxism in school but that socialism has nothing to do with real life. then her husband added that even if we improved society in some way then we would just have new problems.
#19
people seem to consciously avoid bringing politics up whenever im around for some reason

oh no wait my mum did ask why i havent bought a house yet and i answered by going on a long spiel about how the world is changing and even if lenders' largesse picks up enough that i will be able to obtain any real estate the chances are against paying off a substantial amount before the next property crash and prosperity is going to undergo a wrenching contraction anyway because cheap oil is running out and capitalism is running out of profitable avenues to exploit and she said she broadly agreed but it still probably made more sense to own a large valuable asset rather than spend most of my money on bullshit. then i reminded her i am married to a russian jewish princess and she didn't know what that was as she is a sixty five year old woman from india

Hahaha I love that, “I saw him trolling libertarians” in the same sort of hushed whisper as “you know I saw her going through the trash cans behind the 7-11, it’s sad…”

my comment was about the new slightly tightened language law:

Seems like a good bill to me. Quebec is a French-speaking nation. As a migrant from Ontario to Quebec, I need to respect the desire of francophones to speak French in their own country.

167 downvotes so far lol

most people think im "passionate" about my views but i try not to argue politics in good faith anymore if i can avoid it unless i know someone is particularly receptive.

ever since someone posted on lf about "using your friends as propaganda petri dishes" or something ive been doing just that instead and its pretty awesome. thanks, unnamed lf sociopath from the past *drops a rose in front of the tomb of the unknown poster*

everyone thinks I'm apolitical and a straight-ahead guy who just gets down to business, doesn't talk much, does his work, does it well, and then goes home and has a beer. "yeah, he was a pretty nice guy, always quick with a joke, he was really sharp too, on the boxes, he could really stack them well. I'm surprised to be hearing all this stuff about him, honestly. I never saw it personally" said a co worker at the west valley warehouse where he was previously employed. during pretrial proceedings at the matheson courthouse yesterday, judge roberts set bail at five million dollars calling stegosaurs "an extraordinary flight risk, which combined with his crime makes it imperative that he remain in custody"

i haven't been to the US since before LF was invented and in the back of my mind i wonder if i'd be black sited based on like a 2008 post where i said "dying for bush's oil profits" or something

one serious political discussion I did have was at my old job with the hollow-earth building-seven stoner aspiring rap artist, about the total incompetence of us intelligence. I was trying to say "theres no way they did 9/11, robert hanssen gave himself away a half dozen times and nobody was smart enough to notice."

i've had roommates that talk a lot about jewish conspiracies and catholic satanism and shit but i usually just go like "that sure is an opinion" and don't try to argue against it.

#36
saying you're a marxist or w/e is meaningless, most political discussions are senseless. the key is to lift heavier weights- the people will follow

my interpretation, anyway, is that you try using various rhetorical tools on particular acquaintances or circles of acquaintances and see what sort of thing sticks and what sort of "progress" you can make and just generally gauge the results

When people ask me what I really believe after savagely critiquing something they hold dear I just say “it doesn’t matter what I believe, I’m just one guy” and it drives them crazy, pretty rude of me really.
