despatches from the office; someone got basically bullied by a whole bunch of her coworkers into eating a big mac that had been dropped on the floor, as a forfeit for a "bet". then one of the new hires who is a relatively normal person immediately put in her resignation, citing the puerile atmosphere. then the managing director found out about the event and sent around a long email saying this sort of thing has no place at the company.

Maybe the cia has a reason to be interested in teenagers who are fascinated and comforted by lobby floor 100% completely cleared of dust particles

3d update: i am in school full-time taking courses about political economy. i should be working as a research assistant soon if the prof who wants to hire me does the dang paperwork. i think that will be sort of semi-casual/fun independent work so i can maybe add a (paid) internship somewhere more applied or something which is cool.

How much do you make as a research assistant

it'll work out to about 10 hrs/week at $15/hr (subsidized student thing). i have mondays and fridays off basically so i might try to use those days for the second job which i guess could be 10 to 15 hours. i'm living at home and i commute so my costs are fairly low, so i might be able to save enough for first/last rent or something.

Hope the best for you. What exactly do you think you would be doing if it comes through? Is the professor in question involved in any interesting projects at the moment?

(Was never invited to become a research assistant or an intern myself at college, so I'm fuzzy about what exactly it entails)

thanks. i might help organize a conference but i'm not sure what the research angle will be. we get along well so i think he might actually be like hmm what do you want to research, go do that (as long as it relates somewhat to his topics).

its like being a grad student who is expected to be more useless and less well paid

There is only one thing in life worse than being a useless under-paid grad student etc, etc.

i imagine being a grad student in the humanities is really weird because i get the feeling that lots of people doing cultural studies and stuff very strongly identify with the stuff that they do which is really strange to me when i think that it almost almost amounts to having to get your value system vetted by random strangers in order to be able to find work.

PFD was 2,000 dollars this year highest one ever I think. By this time next yr I should have 150k saved counting all me accounts but not counting my retirement accounts. I could be, like, a literal millionaire by 45 probably but not a good one, one of those ones who die at 73 and leave all their money to "Harvard School" and nobody even knew who they were except for their cats. Instead im going to burn thru it all in probably like 6 years while working bad jobs in nyc and we'll see if im self supporting at the end of that. Just letting everyone know where im at. I had 2,000 dollars and a hyundi to my name when I first quit drinking lol.

I met a guy there who was a high up corporate guy for I think wall mart whos really bad at improv but will like fly to chicago and air b&b for 2 months just to take some random improv class because he retired at age 35. In the biz of pro wrestling that's called a "money mark"
#1636
can i sleep on your couch in nyc. we could start a comedy team. you'll tell insightful jokes to increasingly large crowds and i'll sleep on your couch.
#1637
150k dude... fuck. just buy a shitty house and coast for the rest of your goddamn life
#1638
If you think I'm going to have a couch that I own and don't collectively share with 1-4 other men and possibly their girlfriends also then you may have a mis understanding of the rent sitch. If u need info feel free to check out the song Rent from the musical Rent
